1 . Why Recycled Parts?

There are many reasons to choose used engines or used car parts. The three major reasons to choose used engines or parts are availability, price and quality. Used parts are readily available, reasonably priced, and were manufactured to OEM quality standards. Also, recycling through the use of used parts is good for the environment.

The automotive recycling industry plays a necessary and crucial role in the efficient and ecological disposal of inoperable motor vehicles.

Reusable or recycled auto parts can be an economically, perfectly sound solution to repairing your vehicle. You can save up to 80% of new part purchase price!

2 . Common mistakes on form submissions

The model of a vehicle is NOT the year. The model of the vehicle is displayed on the Manufacturers Identification Plate, or in the Vehicle Identification Number (Chassis Number).

The year of a vehicle is displayed on the Manufacturers Identification Plate. Do Not Quote the year on the Registration Label, as some vehicles are registered the following year.

It is always handy to have with you the type of engine that is in your vehicle. This is usually called the Engine Prefix and is usually found preceding the engine number or cast in the side of the block.

3 . Are my parts covered by warranty?

After findapart.com.au has emailed your parts request to our database of dealers/wreckers it plays no further role.

It is in your interest as purchaser to check issues such as warranty, returns, shipping and receipts prior to finalisation of payment.

Check that the dealer/wrecker you are communicating with has an ABN Number and that they are going to supply you with a written receipt and warranty.

Finally membership of the Auto Parts Recyclers Association of Australia (APRAA) or the State division of the MTA will provide further evidence and commitment to the industry.

4 . What Is A Chassis Number, And Why Do Dismantlers/Repairers Need It?

The chassis or frame number of your vehicle assists the dismantlers in identifying exactly which model of vehicle you have, as it is possible for manufacturers to change a car model in the middle of any given year.

5 . How And Where Do I Locate My Chassis Number?

For most passenger vehicles, the chassis number can be found in the engine bay.

* Lift Bonnet of Vehicle and Place On Holder For Safety.

* Look at the wall behind the motor (this is often referred to as the “firewall” and is the wall that separates the engine bay and the vehicles dashboard in the cabin.)

* In almost all cases the chassis number will be located in the middle of the top part of the firewall. This number may either be stamped into the body in the same color as the paint or can be a silver “credit-card” sized plate riveted in the same area.

6 . What is a 'Half Cut'?

Full front half of the car, cut half way through the "A" (windscreen) pillars and along the floor in front of the seats.
